Bibi as bird

Bibi is curious what the birds are doing on the table.

So ...
maybe there is a little something....for him too!

young coaltit

Its so nice to see,
this young coal-tit on the feedingtable
looking so new and harmless

all their feathers in place
and their looks are still so kind of ....
can't find right the word...for it...so.....kind of clumsy

young coaltit

A young coal-tit balanced on the arrow.
I like the way he held his feet, while looking around.

fierce robin

Fierce, brave and courageous... standing...this robin.
all of his feathers kind of shabby... worn out
Like having gone through a fight.
I never saw him standing so fierce.

knee-high grass

For Tommy the grass was knee-high.
so he could hide a little in the shadow of the clovers.

not so anymore...after the grass has been cut today.

coffee

Today my friend K. and her new bird Elsje came along for a cup of coffee.
of course the bird wanted some coffee too.

sparrow

Another bird who lived in the Zoo was this sparrow,
sitting in the tree above our head...listening to our conversation.
He had a free ticket to go in and out.

lions den

Today I went with one of my friends M. to the Zoo.
Our main goal was to see the lions.
and...one of my desires was...to see them while they were having their meal.

When we arrived to our surprise the lions were just having their lunchtime!
It could not be better than that...
It was as if being around in Daniel 's den of Lions

hoverfly

In my garden I see the last weeks, lost of hoverflies..(zweefvliegen)
they can kind of stand still in the air...like a colibri.
This one is a Marmalade hover-fly...
in dutch he is called a pyama zweefvlieg..or (latin name:Episyrphus balteatus)
as if he is still wearing his striped pyjama..and did-not change clothes after breakfast.

on one leg

Again I saw him sitting on one leg.

I never noticed this, during summertime.
I thought he did this only in wintertime, when it is cold..to keep one foot warm.
But now I think he just likes it to sit like this.

does anybody know???

robin on one leg

I heard robin tick-tick-tick-tick-tick...defending his territory...
or tickering for kind of for danger.
I could come rather close...while he kept on making his tick-tick-tick-sounds.

Probably is was not because of danger,
but for something else.
He pulled one of his legs inside...which they only do when relaxing.
he kept on tick-tick-tickering...resting on the other leg.

full color

This morning, I looked for the new-born ladybird,
to see if he was still there...

At first I thought he had gone,
but looking a little higher.... there he was.
He had climbed between the seeds of the valerian.
hiding...between the seeds, which had become little parachutes...ready to jump off.

Now he had put on his full colors
all his dots were deepblack and his shield painted in a bright-firy-orange.

dots coming...

I decided to follow the progress of the dots coming through.
every hour I made a photo.
the raindrops still on top...because it kept raining all day long.
you can clearly see the dots darkening,
while he sheltered in the shadow of a leaf.

first steps

Then not long after...
he set his first steps.
going for a walk on the stem of the valerianplant.
with new coming dots appearing on his shield...along with the raindrop-dots.

newborn ladybird

When I went outside to check my mailbox,
I remembered the last cocoon of the ladybird in the Valerian.
So I checked instead the cocoon.

To my surprise..the ladybird had just come out!
He sat with large raindrops on his new shield on the other side of the cocoon,
waiting to dry and harden his wings.
It was such a beautiful sight..this ladybird with shining-thru dots..and raindots.

watchers at the gate

In my garden, just at the arch, when entering my garden
the watchers are blossoming.

I call always call them watchers...
because one of my friends F. gave me, years ago some baby plants.
she had sown them and on the seed-package the name of this specie was "Watcher"
Over the years the seeds have fallen on the ground and made even more watchers.

yesterday the sun was gently playing with the reds, making them even more brilliant

one egg

The blackbirds-nest is empty...(see also posts of July 11, July 07 and July 01)
The young have flown out.
I saw father blackbird flying with his beak full of food...to the conifer,
instead of flying into the ivy where the nest is.
that means the young are in the conifer.

After a few days now...I checked the nest to see what was left.
I found one unhatched egg in the nest as a left over.
