Stone Marten

Recently, about ten days ago, I noticed a creature, diving into the peanut butter jar.

I had never seen this one before in real life. I remembered him from images...so I looked it up.

Don't know if I am happy with a Stone Marten (Martes foina), (Steenmarter) in my garden. He is well known for eating cables in cars, so that your car won't ride anymore. They also are known for eating birds eggs and even young birds... But he is beautiful to see with his long tail and white breast.

No I don't want him in my garden. He managed to throw the peanut butter jar to the ground into broken glass pieces. So that was the end of the peanut butter jar for a season. Did not see him back again.

Hare

I totally fell in love with the hare, who is still coming everyday. Mostly in the evenings now, however he might be here around in other parts of my garden where I can't see him.

I love his cute little tail, which is black on top and white underneath...Who would think of that, when our Creator was imagining a design for a hare.

and then his soft little cute nose...sooo tender and soft.

Hare

I see him almost everyday, feasting on the clovers and grass and some poppy's.

Very interesting however is that he comes to my terrace in the evening. He instals himself near a big plant pot at the end of the my terrace. He then grooms and washes his legs and face on such a adoring manner that my heart melts by seeing him doing so.

He then lays down and takes a nap...!

I've never heard of that a wild hare takes a nap on a terrace. Mostly they have their sleeping place in a burrow, not near a house.

Does anyone know more about that? If so, please let me know.

Rabbit is a hare

Rabbit is not a rabbit. he is a hare...

Someone wondered and told me it's not a rabbit. It's a hare....a young one.

Because he is a young hare, he looks a lot like a rabbit. however his ears are longer and his hind legs are  stronger. Now I know, there is no mistake.

He likes flowers a lot. He loves eating some of the campanulas. There are lots of flowers in my garden, so there is enough.

Sheep

On of my biking tours I discovered a beautiful restful place
with small pools and wild flowers.
A flock of sheep was enjoying there a good meal.

Turtle

A while ago when walking along the water, I noticed a strange thing sitting on the fallen tree.
When I looked better, it was a turtle…
Weird, a turtle here in the river?

Then I remembered I had heard that years ago,  someone had set out his turtle in the river as a small turtle.
The exact story I don't know anymore, but somehow
this turtle had grown …having survived here in the river.

Bunnies

Today I went to the garden, where my parents lived.
As soon as I entered the gate there was a bunny sitting.
Not afraid at all, I could approach rather close.
Very soon I saw more bunnies...young ones...hopping freely around, so now and than nibbling a little something.

One of them even hopped very close...as if he thought he was all by himself.

squirrel

Looking out of my window,
I saw squirrel posing on a tree stump, sniffing out the air.
sitting there like a life-statue.

when I tried to come nearer for a closer-up
my life-statue ran away

squirrel-time

I heard kgneach-kgnaech, kgnaechh...
then pause...
again ghneachh-ghniachhh- ghneachhh...
kind of sawing, gnawing, scraping kind of sound.

Since I live here, I know exactly what that sound means...

That means: nuts are ripe!
A squirrel is sawing, scraping with his teeth on the walnut to break it open
its a queer sound, but once you heard that sound, you'll never forget.
scrape gncheachh...sharp teeth sawing gnawing.
"walnut time"...squirrels around...!
"collecting-nuts-time"& "berrying-nuts-time"

Every time I hear that sound...I look around, scanning trees, branches...
and shortly after I find red.

playing ball

Today friends visited...and helped me in my garden.
they brought along an unexpected lovely visitor, called Nike.
Nike loved to go playing with Tommy and Bibi,
who both were a little bit more than suspicious...
(I forgot to photograph their high backs, thick tails and lowered ears...)

tolerating Nike, ...but playing....????? ueehh ?
....cats and dogs...?????????
(though it was raining yesterday both of them)(see post yesterday)

so Nike enjoyed and played all by himself with his favorite ball.

2 hedgehogs

Yesterday-late, I saw 2 hedgehogs roaming around in my garden.
as the wheater is warm, Bibi and Tommy have their meals outside.

Hedgehogs love catfood.
so they soon learned their is a very yummy something
in the blue dishes outside.
