Golden beetle

protaetia cuprea metallica, (copper chafer), ( gedeukte gouden tor)

This morning I saw a new insect. I had never seen before.

I got my macro lens, and made some beautiful photo's. Because he sat on the edge of the birdbath, he got a beautiful water dropplet on his shield.

I looked it up and got the name, he's called a golden beetle, though in english he's named with a copper shield. That's weird. I like the gold better!
Unfortunately The photos I took with my Canon camera are  ot in the folder I put them in. I don't know what happened.

Before I put the memorycard back in the camera, I always delete the photo's so that I don't get all doubles.

So cannot get the photo's back. This is it.

Anyway, Happily I had also made some photo's on my phone. However these are less quality than I take with my Canon.

Green beetle and a red beetle

I was sitting outside, enjoying the sunshine and my lunch, when something tickled on my leg.
I brushed it off and while I looked what it was, I noticed that it was a very bright green tiny beetle.
I tried to get him on a small stick, which he allowed. Put him on a table, to get my camera.
Interesting such a bright green shiny green creature.
He has amazing big black eyes.(click photo to see it better)
I wanted to know it's name of course. So I looked it up.
It's a (Green weevil, Groene struiksnuitkever, Polydrusus formasus)
I love the photo that he spreads his wings.

And shortly after I had spotted this green beetle, My eye caught another one.
A bright red beetle.
He posed from both sides...so that was nice.

It's a  (Cardinal Beetle,Zwartkopvuurkever, Pyrochroa coccinea,

Black beetle

On my way for a walk with a friend, we found on our path several black beetles also walking there.
One was just trying to go on the wings and you could see movement in the underwings, like a kind of trembling.
A moment later he was gone.
A little further there was one lying on his back...not alive anymore.
His colours were briljant from deep purple ultramarine blues and deep magenta.
later I found out his name:
Dung-beetle, Mestkever or Geotrupidae.

Whirligig beetle

Last saturday I visited with a friend a place where there was a great pond.
I had seen another time, that there were these running beetles on the water,
so I took my camera with me.
In dutch they are named 'Writers' Schrijvertjes, as if they are writing on the surface of the water.
I also like the english name Whirligig beetle..whirling and twirling on the water....

beetle colors

I found a beetle on the ground outside.
I looked if it was still alive, because it did not move.
I was n't.
I accidentally turned it over.
Beautiful shimmering shiny purples and blues on his belly and legs...so surprising all these colours!,
while his shield on the top-side was just dark greyish black.

struggle

A very big bug, a cockchafer,(meikever) sat on a leaf of a waterplant in the pond.
He was going in circles and circles...on the edge of the leaf.
thinking he would come out of the water, if he walked enough miles.

More than once he slipped of the leaf...nearly drowning,
but he managed to come back on the leaf after some struggle.
Finally I saved him...
probably he didn't remember that he could use his wings
