The neighbours walnut tree is empty. Squirrel has stored a lot of nuts in my garden and as well in my neighbours gardens. He is so clever. I still have some nuts I collected last year. So now and then I put the nuts on a small table. In the beginning I put out the whole nuts and what he does, he runs away with them and stores the nuts someplace. However what I like is seeing the squirrel to eat the nut. I break the nuts so he has to eat them on the spot. He mostly stays on the spot where he finds the nut, which is on the small table.

Then I have the opportunity to make some beautiful shots!
 

Green cocoon

 Its interesting.

It took the caterpillar 3 days to sit still and wait. He waited 3 days to transform into cocoon.

Also this cocoon is a bright green one. While the cocoon of the other caterpillar was a brownish one.  (see last post)

In my observation the caterpillars were lookalikes. Both of the Small white cabbage butterfly.

The caterpillar made overnight a beautiful safety belt around his belly. Now he is waiting till he transforms into cocoon. You can clearly see the tiny white belt at a third of his body.

This is the cocoon of the caterpillar that transformed some weeks ago. 
 

Caterpillar Small Cabbage White

About 2 weeks ago, I found a caterpillar crawling up the wall. I hoped he would climb a bit higher, because I knew he was looking for a place to cocoon. A bit higher would be a bit safer.

I forgot to make a photo, wanted to do it the next day, but the next day when I looked again, he had gone into cocoon. 

Today I found another caterpillar also climbing up the wall. As I looked at it better, I saw him busy making a safety belt. That means he is preparing for going into cocoon. So I grabbed my camera, however its darkening already and only got this one sharp. (click images for sharper view)

Tomorrow I think he has gone into cocoon also and will make some more photo's.

I think its the caterpillar of Small Cabbage White (Klein Koolwitje)

Crested Tit

 Have n't seen him for a long while, the Crested Tit.

Mostly I notice him in winter at the feeding table, but now today he has a good bath.

Such a beautiful bird!

Nuts

 Squirrel is looking for nuts.

The nuts on the neighbours walnut-tree are ripe again. Two squirrels are running to and fro from the nut-tree and a storage place somewhere in my garden. I think they already planted a walnut-orchard in my garden.

I sometimes put some 'last-year-nuts' out. Just for fun, because its such a great sight to see them around a bit closer and they take some time to eat the nut in front of my sight.

I always have this feeling when autumn arrives...'Oh no!!! not yet! please stay away a bit longer'        Please wait...shorter days...colder temperatures, raining... falling leaves...No not today!

However fact is, that I cannot ignore the presence of autumn, nor hold on tight to summer. 

Anyway, today I looked at the leaves and noticed how a worm or a caterpillar had eaten a way though the leaf.

It's interesting to see what shapes he has made...lines, squares, dots and more funny shapes.

Actually I always wondered who would do that, which creature I mean. Is it a worm, a bug or caterpillar. Who is doing this? Then on the second last photo I spotted a small caterpillar when I looked at the photos on my computer.(when you click the image it more visible)

 The dove is stirring the waters. 

I love his looks when he is done.

 The squirrels are back!

They are inspecting the neighbours walnut tree again.

However the nuts are not ripe yet, but maybe they are thinking the nuts are good enough.

I still have some last-year-nuts and threw them out. It did not take long that one of the squirrels found them.

Redstart

 This morning I noticed a bird, which I could not determine at first hand.

It looked like a blonde robin and then seeing it from the back I thought it might be a sparrow.

It flew away...so yeah...who can tell?

The I saw him again...and I noticed his red start!

It looks like a young female Redstart.

A very rare bird here in my garden. so that was special.
