mist and fog

Its extremely misty & foggy out side. This is how my sky looks like..

Narnia

It looks as if we arrived in the land of Narnia, arriving at the lamppole, and the season of the year has changed gear into cold and snow.

I guess the Wren/Winterkoning, ( see two days before yesterdays-post) was announcing coming winter! He was tettering and tickering very loud at that time and only I didn't understand what he was trying to say...
Now I see!
Tonight out of the dark, the world changed into white! it snows!!!
I love the gentle fresh snowdrops coming down, layering everything in whites.

Such a wonderful change suddenly...enchanting...!

saffron

Recently a found a book about the history colours written by Victoria Finlay. Its really a 'travel through the paintbox', as is the original title of the book. She explains in fascinating way the history of colours.
Then about month ago I found in a greenhouse the bulbs of the crocus (crocus sativus) where the original saffron comes from.. I immediately bought the bulbs and planted them..(rembering her story about saffron.)These crocus are different from the springcrocus. These crocus blossoms in autumn & only one day/morning!. The colour saffron comes from the 3 pistils of the flower, which gives the awesome colour of goldenyellows. Very costly because of the intense work to collect them, the short period of blossoming and very fragile flower.

I tried it, collected the s little red 'threads'...mixed them with water and Arabic gum..and there's the colour!

Here is the wren when he is dressed as king. but mostly he is under cover...so nobody knows.

The wren is the King of the winter...that's why we call them in Holland 'Winterkoning'

Its kind of drizzling and raining today, but some plants don't mind and still spread their beauty around... maybe even nicer because of the beautiful teardrops hanging on them.

rose-hips

This morning , while looking outside of my window, I saw a branch moving and shaking, while there was no wind elsewhere. So I looked a little closer, first didn't see any reason why the branch was so disturbed.
Inspecting closer, I saw a blackbird pulling and tugging, trying to get one of these, which made the branches shake so severely.
The rose-hips of the may-tree...sitting to tight on the branches but...ready for a meal.

hibernation

Could not resist, to find another red in my garden...He was in hibernation cause it didnot move. I put him back between the leaves, so he could continue his deep sleep.

Looked for some more reds in my garden, & found the lovely berries of the lily of the valley.
One half eaten, who would eat them? Would it be one of Leopolds happy meals?

Another beautiful red...even with the raindrops on it, and raining all day it has beauty.

getting dark

After he had put the tentpins into the ground, it started getting dark.
He put on some light as well, so it would be a nice house. and the stamp he used as a
doormat.

Leopold was very happy!

After reading the house-manual, Leopold started following the instructions.
It was not so difficult, only a matter of pins hammering in the ground, fixing the corners of the card..which was meant to be a tent, a-card-tent-house!

Then Leopold saw there was a manual included too.
So he sat down on a tree, and carefully started reading the instructions for his new house... as to make sure nothing would be missed or left out. His cheeks were becoming red of excitement!

Leopold was very surprised after he had managed a few hours to get the enveloppe unwrapped.
There was a card sitting inside, and it had written 'NEW HOUSE FOR YOU'...! on one side.

When no one answered, he decided to knock on the other side and doing so he noticed something written on it.
TO LEOPOLD it said...

Then Leopold realised that it was a letter, that had been dropped for him, maybe by the carrier-pigeon ?

At first Leopold was rather undone by this red thing coming down, which had landed exactly in front of his tree, where he had his happy meal.
But after counting to 10, he took back his composure and decided for inspection.
He knocked on the red looking if someone was in.

before dark

Before dark, many birds like to have a bath before going to sleep.
Never saw a golden crested wren together bathing with a wren, and then again he took a bath together with a crested tit.
Two crested birds together...ain't it lovely...

an unusual thing

After Leopold had sat peacefully enjoying his happy meal.

Suddenly a very strange unusual thing happened...
something was dropped, being dropped or came down...and Leopold was rather frightened

After a while Leopold saw a beautiful spot in the wood, and luckily there was one of his favorite meals growing too...
So he sat down and started having his happy breakfast.

What happened to leopold?
After finishing his dream, he awoke from his sleep.
and decided to go out for a walk in the wood, and maybe find something for breakfast.

Treasures are mostly hidden, even the squirrel knows...
